MASSAGE

Lack of movement slows down circulation. Sitting or sleeping in the same position for long periods of time can cause health issues. If your flight lasts more than a few hours, doing a few exercises before sleeping can be really beneficial. You can improve circulation and relax your muscles with massage and exercise.

Massage while flying

Massages you can do while flying include a few light movements and warmups. This session has four sections and takes about half an hour to complete.

Finger massage

Open your hands fully and extend your fingers. Close each finger one-by-one and make two fists. Repeat this exercise a few times. While your fists are clenched rotate your wrists from inside to out. Repeat this exercise five times for each wrist.

Hand massage

When you sit still on a plane, you may lose sensation in your hands as a result of poor circulation. This exercise will work your extremities and warm up your hands. Extend your left arm forward with your palm facing up. Bring your right hand over to your left and rest it on top so each finger meets. Make sure your fingers are in line. Interlock your fingers and relax your hands. Use your left thumb to massage your right hand, and then your right thumb to massage your left hand.

Elbow massage

Make a fist with your right hand and bend your arm. Hold your right elbow with your left hand. Make circular motions in the air with your right wrist. Do the same with your left hand.

Shoulder massage

This massage will help relieve tension in your shoulders. Put your right hand on your left shoulder and grab your right elbow with your left hand. Make circular massaging movements with your right hand. Be careful not to pinch your neck.

Toe massage

Remove your shoes. Spread your toes as wide as possible. Imagine you are picking up sand with your toes at the beach, and contract them. Repeat this exercise five times.

Ankle massage

Extend your feet and make circular motions with them in the air.

Foot massage

Make sure your seat is upright and relax. Put your heels on the floor and raise your toes into the air. Next, place your toes on the ground and raise your heels.

Leg massage

Hold your right leg with both hands and lift it slightly. Then leave your right leg and lift your other leg. This will increase circulation in your legs.

Head and neck massage

Head and neck massage can relieve pain caused by stress and tension when flying. It will leave you feeling stretched and relaxed. Plus, it is easy to do. Using your fingers, first apply circular motions to your temples and then your brow. Do this lightly and stay relaxed. After this head massage, slowly turn your head over your right shoulder. Do this slowly. Continue to make circular motions.
