Introducing Moscow

Cathedrals, monument and squares are what Moscow is best known for, and the city's beauty really seems to defy the passage of time as it becomes more and more popular each year. The name of the city’s most famous square, Red Square comes from the Russian word "krasnaya" which means "red", although it was so named long before the advent of communism. Some of the places to visit in Red Square include St. Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum, the State Historical Museum and the histori GUM department store. Next, head over to the Kremlin, the spectacular fortified residential complex of Russian rulers in the heart of the city, full of cathedrals and palaces harking back to the opulence of the tsarist era. The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts holds incredible pieces from the ancient city of Troy, while the Novodevichy Convent is the final resting place of some of Russia's most famous historical figures. And of course there's the Bolshoi Theater where you can see some of the world's best ballet and opera performances.
