Transport in the cargo compartment

Pets that are not permitted in the cabin (due to carriers/bags that are not in compliance with the criteria specified for the cabin) are transported in the aircraft’s cargo section if the carrier dimensions are suitable.

The transportation of pets is not included in the free baggage allowance and is subject to a fee. Fees and rules for pets accepted on board AnadoluJet flights may vary.

Crate features and issues to be considered

  • The pet carrier must weigh less than 50 kg, and be a maximum of 75 cm high, 75 cm wide and 125 cm long.
  • For the safety of animals transported in the cargo compartment, carriers/cages must have a hard surface. Soft-sided carriers/cages/bags are not accepted in the cargo section.
  • To ensure the pet’s comfort, the carrier must be large enough for the animal to sleep, stand and turn around; and be ventilated and watertight. Carriers must also have a lateral locking system.
  • If you have a waiting time of 4 or more hours or your flight time is more than 8 hours, informative instructions, food and an automatic water dispenser must be placed in the carrier for the pet’s nutrition or special needs. Additionally, a tag containing the pet’s identification information must be attached to the carrier.
  • As of October 1, 2021, cats and dogs with respiratory problems have been restricted from being transported in the aircraft’s cargo section.

Cat and dog breeds with special conditions

  • Certain cat breeds (Birman, Exotic, Persian, Himalayan, Burmese, Scottish Fold, British Shorthair, etc.) and dog breeds (Affenpischer, Pekingese, Pug (all breeds), Shar Pei, Shih Tzu, Japanese Dog, Lhasa Apso, Tibetan Spaniel, Chow Chow, English Little Spaniel, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Brussels Griffon, Bullmastiff, British Mastiff, etc.) may have respiratory problems that are not suitable for cabin carriage. If this is the case, reservation and boarding procedures can be performed via Turkish Cargo and the animals can be transported in the cargo section of the aircraft.
  • Dangerous breeds such as the American Bulldog, Bandog Tosa Inu, Caucasian Shepherd Dog, French Mastiff, Pincher and all Doberman breeds, Presa Canario, Rottweiler, Mastiffs (except Bullmastiff), Wolfhounds, Anatolian Shepherd Dog, Boerboel and hybrids of these breeds may only be transported in the aircraft’s cargo section if they are accepted by Turkish Cargo.

Transportation of animals sharing the same carrier/cage in the aircraft’s cargo section

  • A maximum of three animals (cats/dogs) aged 10-24 weeks, born to a single mother, can be carried in the same cage/carrier in the cargo compartment. Animals of the same breed, each weighing a maximum of 14 kg, close in size and used to living together, can be kept in a single cage/carrier. If the weight of any of these animals is greater than 14 kg, they must travel in their own cage/carrier.

Turkish Airlines does not accept responsibility for the health conditions of pets during or after the flight.
