Introducing the North Macedonia
Sharing northern borders with Kosovo and Serbia, and bordered by Greece in the south, Albania in the west, and Bulgaria in the east, North Macedonia is a Balkan destination that attracts numerous tourists each year. Natural attractions such as the Vardar River, and the Ohrid, Dojran, and Prespa lakes, along with mountains and canyons, draw visitors, as does Skopje, the country’s capital, and its largest city and administrative hub. Due to its strategic location, North Macedonia has long been an area of settlement; remnants of the Ottoman Empire are evident in various regions of the country, as are traces of Roman inhabitance.
Turkish Airlines operates several direct flights each week to Skopje and Ohrid. Direct flights to North Macedonia from Istanbul Airport (IST) last around an hour and 35 minutes.
