Kavala International Airport Information

Kavala's airport was built in 1981 and opened to international flights in 1988. In 1992, the airport was given the name 'Megas Alexandros' in honor of Alexander the Great, the Macedonian King who conquered Greece and is considered by some as the greatest military leader in history.

In 1998, the airport was given a major overhaul that enabled a larger number of passengers to travel through the facility. Improvement to the airport has led to the growth of the East Macedonia and Thrace Greek regions.
