Passengers may bring fold-up bassinets, car-type infant seats or infant harnesses (papoose-style baby carriers) onboard, subject to certain restrictions. Car-type infant seats must be used for babies under the age of two; the seat must be no larger than 40x40 cm, must have a fastening belt that fits on the aircraft cabin seat, and must be attached to the seat at all times during the flight and prevented from tilting forward. When the seatbelt warning lights are illuminated, the car-type infant seat must be in the upright position. When not in use, the infant seat must be secured.
Infant Carrier/Car-Type Infant Seat
1) In order to fit on the cabin seat, the infant carrier/seat must be no larger than 40x40 cm.
2) The infant carrier/car-type seat must fit on the passenger seat (not on the seat arm) and be secured with the seat belt according to the manufacturer's instructions at all stages of the flight.
If an infant carrier/car-type seat is to be used throughout the flight that requires seat belts to be fastened, the child/infant's carrycot/car type stroller must be fastened with its own seat belts and the seat back must be upright.
Cabin Crew Considerations for Infant Seat Placement: - Infant seats should not interfere with passenger evacuation.
- It cannot be placed in an emergency exit row (all doors and windows).
- It must be placed in the seat next to the parent, preferably the window seat.
- It should not be placed in the aisle seat.
- In wide-body aircraft, the infant seat can be placed in the three- and four-seat middle rows, provided it is not in an aisle seat.
- The infant seat must not impede the movement of the seat in front.
- It must fit between the armrests of the passenger seat.
- The seat must be kept upright during takeoff and landing.
- Infants should be positioned in bassinets and papooses so that they are facing the aircraft tail; in car-type infant seats, the baby should be facing the front of the aircraft.
