Being less famous compared to its neighbors like Seychelles and Mauritius, Moroni is home to 50 thousand Comoros citizens. In the Comorian language, influenced greatly by Arabic, “Moroni” means “at the heart of fire”. The locals believe that the name of the city comes from Mount Karthala of the island. Being an active volcano, Mount Karthala has been silent since 2006.
